11 <br /> <br />City Commissions <br />Organizational Roles and Responsibilities <br /> <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY <br /> <br />The New Brighton Economic Development Authority, (EDA), was established in 1993. Minnesota Statutes, <br />Sections 469.090 through 469.108, authorizes cities to establish Economic Development Authorities with spec- <br />ified powers and obligations to promote and to provide incentives for economic development. The Economic <br />Development Authority meets annually and is comprised of the Mayor and four City Council members. <br /> <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br /> <br />This citizen commission advises the City Council on all city land use planning matters. Duties include the de- <br />velopment and maintenance of the New Brighton Comprehensive Plan, carrying out procedures directed by the <br />City Council, and making recommendations to the Council. The Planning Commission meets monthly on the <br />third Tuesday at 7:00p.m. Beginning April 1, 2016, Planning Commission Members include: <br />Verne McPherson <br />Marvin Deick <br />Steve Danger <br />Jeanne Frischman <br />Erin Nichols Matkaiti <br />Dania Miwa <br />Melissa Murphy <br />Janice Gundlach (Staff Liaison) <br />Paul Jacobsen (Council Liaison) <br /> <br />PARKS, RECREATION, AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMMISSION (PREC) <br /> <br />This commission advises the City Council on the proper use and care for parks and the natural environment, as <br />well as advises on policies covering recreational activities of the City. Issues relating to the Community Center <br />also come under the duties of this commission. The PREC meets at 6:30p.m. on the first Wednesday of each <br />month. Beginning April 1, 2016, Parks, Recreation, and Environmental Commission Members include: <br />Adam Parker <br />Kevin Fields <br />Mary Kunesh-Podein <br />Abraham McEathron <br />Lawrence Justin <br />Megan Eischen <br />Jack Brunell <br />Brandon Steinglen <br />Nick Quade <br />Sandy Breuer (Staff Liaison) <br />Mary Burg (Council Liaison) <br /> <br />
