Mayor Johnson was in favor of staff bringing both plans forward for the Council to consider at a future <br />meeting. <br />Davitt provided an overview for the Council on the City's other insurance policies. She discussed the <br />deductible changes that occurred from 2015 to 2016. It was noted soft tissue claims were the most expensive <br />for the City to cover. She commented on the City's experience modifier and reported the City was well below <br />the 1.0 mark. It was noted the City was currently at 0.75. <br />Hatch reviewed the measures the City was taking to improve the safety, health and well-being within the <br />culture of New Brighton. He explained the City was up to date on all of its mandatory OSHA training. He <br />then commented on the proactive measures the City takes to protect its employees. The City's three-year <br />safety work plan was discussed. <br />Councilmember Bauman suggested staff make the City employees more aware of events that occur in order to <br />continue to reduce the risk for injuries. <br />Davitt commented on the City's property, casualty and liability insurance. She noted deductibles were on the <br />rise but this led to reduced premiums. She reviewed the claims received by the City for property, casualty and <br />liability insurance. She indicated the City was slightly above average on the experience modifier at 1.01. She <br />anticipated the 2016 premium price would be reduced slightly after increasing the City's deductible amount. <br />In the long run, she believed it would benefit the City to self -insure. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked staff for the thorough report.
