He commented <br />on the water interconnection that had been completed with the City of Minneapolis noting this <br />would provide New Brighton with increased capacity. It was the City's goal to have the new <br />technology at the water treatment plant by the fall of 2018. <br />Brian Struh <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission would meet next on Monday, <br />June 27th. He encouraged the public to participate in the Ramsey County Memorial Day <br />celebration. He discussed the events that would be held in recognition of National Police <br />Week. He appreciated the efforts of the New Brighton Public Safety Department in keeping <br />the community safe. He explained Deputy Chief Trevor Hamdorf responded to the wild fires <br />in northern Minnesota on Sunday. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported on Tuesday, May 17th there would be a Planning <br />Commission meeting at 7:00 p.m. The group would discuss the Shoreland Ordinance. He <br />thanked all of the citizens of New Brighton that attended the Town Hall meeting last Saturday. <br />He requested City Manager Lotter pass along his thanks to each of the department heads for <br />their presentations at this event. He noted the Town Hall meeting would be re -broadcast on <br />Channel 16 for those that were unable to attend. <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg thanked the community members that were able to attend the Town Hall <br />meeting. She indicated she attended the Northeast Youth and Family Services luncheon last <br />week. She noted the Park and Recreation Commission did not meet in May. She encouraged <br />the public to visit Dairy Queen on Tuesday, May 17th and every third Tuesday of the month, <br />noting 10% of all purchases are donated to the New Brighton Park and Recreation scholarship <br />fund. She reported the Brightwood Golf Course received a grant from the Sticks for Kids <br />initiative and stated the golf course now had six sets of junior golf clubs available. She <br />explained the Park and Recreation Department planted trees in recognition of Arbor Day on <br />April 29th. She thanked all others within the community for their donations and tree planting <br />efforts. She indicated Leslie Young, the City's volunteer coordinator, was named Secretary of <br />the Minnesota Association for Senior Services. She will serve for two years with this <br />organization. She stated the Park and Recreation Commission would meet again on <br />Wednesday, June 1St and Wednesday, June 8th <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson thanked staff for the great presentations provided at the Town Hall meeting. <br />She was impressed by the exhibits and number of people in attendance. She reported she had <br />the opportunity to attend the Minnesota Mayor's Annual Conference and attended a meeting <br />with the Five Cities Mayor's organization. She commended City Manager Lotter and Finance <br />Director Davitt for bringing speaking to the Senate regarding TIF District legislation. <br />Lotter provided further comment on the legislative efforts that he and Finance Director Davitt <br />have been involved in. <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the extensive training that has been provided to the City's <br />commission members by City Clerk Haarstad. She appreciated staffs efforts in this area and <br />believed the information was being well received. <br />
