Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Johnson received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br />• EDC Minutes from March 2, 2016. <br />• Public Safety Commission minutes from March 28, 2016. <br />May 10, 2016 Page 2 of 6 <br />1 Commission Minutes <br />Special Order of Business <br />1. Reading and Adoption of Resolution designating May 15, 2016 through May 21, 2016 as <br />National Police Week in the City of New Brighton. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Strub to adopt a <br />Resolution designating May 15, 2016 through May 21, 2016 as National Police Week in <br />the City of New Brighton. <br />Mayor Johnson requested Councilmember Strub to read the Resolution in full for the record. <br />Councilmember Strub read a Resolution in full designating May 15, 2016 through May 21, 2016 to be <br />National Police Week in the City of New Brighton. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Public Safety Director Jacobson and the entire Public Safety Department for their <br />dedicated service to the City of New Brighton. <br />A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />Public Safety Director Jacobson stated it was an honor to come before the Council this evening. He indicated <br />231 officers have been lost in the line of duty in the State of Minnesota since the 1860's. He explained the <br />New Brighton Police Department was nearing 70 years of service to the community. While the officers <br />understood the inherent dangers of the job, they also served the City with great pride and were willing to <br />make that sacrifice to do their job. <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />2. Resolution Accepting a Donation from the New Brighton Lion's Club and Naming the <br />North Park located in the New Brighton Exchange as New Brighton Lion's Park. <br />Motion by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Burg to adopt a <br />Resolution Accepting a Donation from the New Brighton Lion's Club and Naming the North Park <br />located in the New Brighton Exchange as New Brighton Lion's Park <br />Mayor Johnson thanked the Lion's Club for their generous donation of $150,000 to New Brighton Lion's <br />Park within the New Brighton Exchange. She requested the Lion's members in attendance to step forward. <br />Councdmerlber Burg read the Resolution in full accepting a donation from the New Brighton Lion's Club <br />and naming North Park located in the New Brighton Exchange as New Brighton Lion's Park. <br />Mark Orth, President of the New Brighton Lion's Club, introduced himself to the Council and noted the New <br />Brighton Lion's Club was chartered in 1950 with 40 members. He discussed the activities that occur <br />annually by the Lion's to raise funds for the community. He was happy to support and serve the community. <br />Mayor Johnson appreciated the amazing work being done by the Lion's Club. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen agreed and thanked the Lion's Club for their investment in the community. <br />Councilmember Burg stated this was a surprise to the community and asked how an individual could become <br />a member of the Lion's Club. Mr. Orth discussed the fundraising efforts of the Lion's Club at Adagio's and <br />explained individuals could get involved with the Lion's Club by attending their meetings at The Mermaid on <br />the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month. <br />Councilmember Strub thanked the Lion's Club for their incredibly generous donation to the City of New <br />Brighton.
