Gundlach reported there had been some effort to get "Welcome to New Brighton" signs placed on new <br />developments. <br />Commissioner Potter believed it would be important for the City to pursue further branding because <br />New Brighton didn't have its own school and for this reason, people in the metro area may not know <br />exactly where New Brighton was. <br />Chair Zisla discussed how having a low profile may also benefit the community. He stated a recent <br />conversation he had was that expensive, high profile self -promotion was not necessary and that <br />businesses would still find their way into the community. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked what the group would like to do to create an identity outside of the <br />community. <br />Commissioner Garcia -Perez did not believe branding was just placing a sign that welcomes individuals <br />to the City of New Brighton. Rather she wanted to see the City marketing unique events that occur in <br />the community, beyond Stockyard Days. <br />Commissioner Potter questioned what the City's end goal was. <br />Chair Zisla believed the City wanted to improve its image and to draw people to the community. <br />Commissioner Benke inquired what the City's current tagline was. Gundlach indicated the City's <br />tagline is "the City that works for you". <br />Commissioner Benke believed New Brighton was a great place to live and had incredible schools. It <br />was his opinion that focus should be on identifying specific issues. <br />Chair Zisla stated it would benefit the EDC to better understand the housing market. Gundlach <br />reviewed how quickly the housing within The Enclave was selling. <br />Commissioner Garcia -Perez discussed her dealings with homeowners and found that people were <br />moving to New Brighton to be close to family, to be within the Mounds View/Irondale school district, or <br />because they happened upon the community by chance. It was her opinion that the City was doing well <br />in attracting residents to the City but could do more to attract commercial users. <br />Chair Zisla anticipated that Long Lake Regional Park was a draw for the community. The EDC was in <br />agreement. <br />Chair Zisla summarized the conversation of the EDC. <br />Commissioner Benke questioned what City staff learned from the recent community survey. Gundlach <br />discussed the results and noted she would forward this information onto the EDC members. <br />Commissioner Beach supported the City remaining the sleeping giant and believed New Brighton was a <br />great place to live, work and play. He indicated this was a great community for both young and old. <br />Chair Zisla requested an update from staff regarding the developments occurring in and around the City. <br />Gundlach provided the EDC with a verbal update. <br />
