MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting — March 2, 2016 <br />7:30 a.m. <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Chair Paul Zisla, Commissioners, D.L. Beach, Al Potter, Bob Benke, <br />Kevin Peck, Monica Garcia -Perez, and Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Commissioner Mike Murlowski <br />Staff Present: Janice Gundlach- Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning <br />Director and Craig Schlichting-Director of Community Assets & Development <br />Alsn Present: <br />Call to Order <br />Chairperson Zisla called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. <br />Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by Commissioner Benke, seconded by Commissioner Beach to approve the agenda as presented. <br />Approved 6-0 <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Benke, seconded by Commissioner Potter to approve the minutes from the <br />February 3, 2016 meeting. <br />Approved 6-0 <br />Report from Council Liaison <br />Councilmember Gina Bauman discussed the work that would be completed at Hanson Park. It was <br />noted the City would be responsible for the long-term maintenance of the dam. Staff explained the <br />project would begin this fall. Councilmember Bauman then commented on the plans for North Park <br />within NBE, along with the improvements being made in the lower level of City Hall. Staff was hopeful <br />the improvements would be complete by June 15`. The final issue the Council had been addressing was <br />commission appointments. <br />Gundlach invited each of the Commission members to attend the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on <br />Sunday, April 24'h. She reported staff would be sending out invitations in the near future. <br />Sense of Place Discussion <br />Gundlach reported that in February of 2015 the EDC spent time defining economic development into <br />four categories. Those categories were: <br />• Physical Redevelopment <br />• Business Retention & Expansion (BR&E) <br />• Sense of Place <br />• Housing Programs <br />Gundlach explained in March of 2015, these concepts were presented to the City Council where <br />collectively there was a general consensus to continue to study these areas and formulate <br />recommendations back to Council.
