New Brighton <br />Anib"os—Povait <br />Mayor Johnson requested the New Brighton Ambassadors come forward. introductions were made by the <br />P'l��,tation <br />ambassadors and a porhait was presented to the City Council. A round of applause was offered by all in <br />attendance. <br />Mayor Johnson questioned how many events the New Brighton Ambassadors attended each summer. It was <br />noted the ambassadors would be attending 60 events this summer. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked the ambassadors for all they do on behalf of the City. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked the ambassadors for representing the City well in all the parades <br />throughout the summer. <br />Councilmember Burg thanked the ambassadors' parents for getting them to all of their events throughout the <br />summer months. <br />2. Oath of Office for Police Officer Thai Xiong <br />2.Oath oforlice 16r Police <br />Officer Iliai Xiong <br />City Cledc Haarstad administered the Oath of Office to Police Officer Thai Xiong. <br />A round of applause was offered by all in attendance. <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Officer Xiong to the City ofNew Brighton and expressed her gratitude to the <br />entire Police Department for keeping the City and its residents safe. <br />Officer Xiong introduced his family members in attendance and thanked the City for their support. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Officer Xiong for joining the New Brighton Police Deparhnent and <br />wished him well. <br />Public Safety Director Jacobson appreciated the kind words fi-om the Council. He believed Officer Xiong <br />would be a great addition to the community. He provided firrther comment on the training Officer Xiong <br />would receive overthe next four months. <br />City Manager Lotter welcomed Officer Xiong to the City of New Brighton and requested he share his story <br />with the Council. <br />Officer Xiong explained he grew up on the east side of St. Paul and always wanted to be in Boy Scouts. He <br />stated he became involved in the MIC Group, which was an anti-drugganti-gang program created by the St. <br />Paul Police. Police officers worked with the program and taught him a great deal about the importance of <br />discipline, teamwork, honesty and integrity. He indicated he attended school at Century College and <br />volunteered with Ed Spazynski. After volunteering his time in school, he went on to work for Allina Health. <br />He applied for the reserve program after receiving encoutagement fi-om Ed.
