CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />STRATEGIC PLAN 2017 <br />Service Description <br />The Mayor and City Council portion of the budget provide funds for the Community Open <br />House, resident outreach activity, and meals before meetings. <br />The City Council approved the implementation of strategic priorities in 2013. The City Council <br />adopted six strategic priorities for the City. Each year the Council analyzes and tweaks the <br />strategic priorities based on the needs of the organization. In 2016 the strategic priorities were <br />revised to five. The five priorities are: <br />1.Financial Sustainability; <br />2. Community Engagement; <br />3. Economic Development; <br />4.Operational Excellence; <br />5. Workforce Engagement and Development. <br />The City’s strategic priorities includes key performance indicators (KPI’s), measurements, <br />targets, and strategic initiatives the City Manager is responsible for managing and successfully <br />monitoring the goals and outcomes for each priorities. The intent of the strategic priorities is to <br />safeguard and sustain future success for the City. The Strategic Plan or Budget is developed and <br />recommended to the City Council. The Mayor and Council direct the City Manager and staff on <br />the final form of the budget and the resulting tax levy. <br />Proposed Changes to Service Level or Revenues <br />This portion of the budget is new will be tracked and tweaked for changes each year. There may <br />be a need to add and remove line items based on what the service needs for this area ultimately <br />are decided. <br />Personnel Status and Strategy <br />The Mayor and Council each receive monthly stipends for their service as established by <br />ordinance. <br />Strategic Opportunities and Challenges <br />The City Council continues to make decisions in regards to the annual budget, the strategic <br />priorities, direction to the City Commissions, and creating the vision and direction of the City. <br />MAYOR AND COUNCIL <br />16
