November 22, 2016 Page 7 of 8 <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter asked the Council to consider the difficulties the lawsuit has had on his <br />ability to effectively serve the entire City Council, given the fact one Councilmember was the <br />plaintiff in the case. He stated he was very disappointed to see another press release in the <br />paper. He believed that it was his duty to handle public relations, however in this case, he feels <br />like he was trying to navigate a mine field. For this reason, he requested the Council cease and <br />desist for the holidays. He discussed all of the positive steps the Council had made in the City <br />through the New Brighton Exchange, by providing safe drinking water, effective and efficient <br />public utilities and by having a wonderful Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked if there was any way Councilmember Bauman would support even year <br />elections. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman stated she would not support even year elections and recommended <br />the City not make a change for its municipal elections. She concurred with the City Manager <br />and recommended the Council move on and get through the holidays. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson expressed concern that Councilmember Bauman was willing to spend more <br />money to engage less people through odd year elections. She requested that Councilmember <br />Bauman cease putting out press releases. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub ended his report by wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving as well. She thanked City <br />Manager Lotter for his wisdom and direction. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen looked forward to the Council discussing the odd/even election year <br />topic in another setting that would be more conducive in 2017. He reported the Planning <br />Commission met last Tuesday, November 15th. He explained CPY held its Fall Fundraising <br />Gala last Friday, November 18th and noted the event was highly successful. He indicated <br />Ramsey County League of Local Government would be meeting on Thursday, December 8th <br />where the election results would be discussed. He wished all New Brighton residents a safe <br />and Happy Thanksgiving. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson encouraged residents to shop locally and support small businesses on Saturday, <br />November 26th. She reported local crafters were holding an event at the Eagles Club. She <br />indicated she had the pleasure of attending the Minnesota Brownfield award ceremony last <br />Thursday. She thanked all of the engineers, City staff and consultants that were in attendance <br />at this event. She believed the award would open new doors for additional development for the <br />New Brighton Exchange. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson indicated she attended the CPY Fall Gala and commented on the Lunch with <br />the Mayor events. She commented on the recent election and explained all students were safe <br />within local schools. She stated she attended a North Metro Mayors meeting where local <br />ambulance services were discussed. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson commented on the recent employee recognition breakfast. She was pleased to <br />report that Trevor Hamdorf was awarded the Michael J. Walker Spirit Award for his efforts on <br />behalf of the City.
