<br /> 5 <br /> Sense of Place  <br />Explore and implement smaller, incremental projects through public and private partnerships that  <br />focus on building and creating a sense of place.  <br />  <br />Results  <br />  <br />Identify a set of guiding principles that fully encompass all the elements of creating and building a  <br />sense of place.  <br />  <br />March 2, 2016: The Economic Development Commission brainstormed what creating a sense of  <br />place is.  <br />  <br />June 1, 2016: The Economic Development Commission discussed a set of guiding principles  <br />drafted by staff that was based on the brainstorming session of March 2, 2016.  <br />  <br />July 6, 2016: The Economic Development Commission discussed a refined set of guiding  <br />principles that will be recommended to the Council for inclusion in the Sense of  <br />Place Key Performance Indicator under the Economic Development Strategic  <br />Priority.  <br />  <br />TBD: The City Council will be presented a Resolution establishing the Economic  <br />Development Commission’s guiding principles surrounding creating a sense of  <br />place.  <br />  <br />Interpretation  <br />  <br />The City will measure progress on this initiative by implementing and supporting the following:  <br /> Interaction with Public Safety and traffic calming allowing people to more safely be out in the <br />community. <br /> Creation of gathering places or destinations, whether in plaza‐type environments, at a local <br />restaurant or bar, fraternal organizations, or in outdoor dining spaces. <br /> Ensuring a connection with the schools, access to personal enrichment programs, and local <br />sport team identification. <br /> Creating walkable environments with connections to high quality public spaces, including <br />parks, public art, and City entrance monument signage. <br /> Creating better physical connections to local business through roads, trails, landscaping, <br />lighting, etc. <br /> Provide local support and visibility for public events, like Stockyard Days, a farmer’s market, <br />and sporting events and providing ways for local business to be engaged in these events. <br />  <br />Response  <br />  <br />Not Yet Determined  <br />  <br />
