19
The Project Lifesaver Program, which started in New Brighton, and has been expanded
Countywide has formally been transferred from the Sheriff’s Department to the Saint
Paul Fire Department for program administration. With the change and the
implementation of the closest unit dispatching agreement, any project lifesaver search
will result in the closest four trained and equipped units being dispatched to the location
regardless of jurisdictional boundaries. During the month of May there were three Project
Lifesaver searches in the County and each one resulted in the successful location of the
missing person. The closest unit fire dispatching continues to be planned for
implementation during early Fall/late summer.

On Saturday, May 7th Public Safety staff participated in the annual City of New Brighton
Open House. Public Safety staff spoke to the attendees about the symbiotic relationship
between public safety, development, quality of life, strong neighborhoods, and strong
schools.

XI. RECOGNITION, NEWS AND INFORMATION

This section will include “good news” information about our public safety personnel.
This will include formal and informal recognition of the department and/or its personnel
on or off duty.

On Tuesday, May 24th Officer Thai Xiong was administered his official oath of office
given y City Clerk Terri Haarstad. Officer Xiong had the opportunity to speak about his
experiences and how he was fortunate enough to join the Public Safety Department and
appreciated the efforts of Acting Sergeant Sypniewski hi helping him attain his goal. He
was joined by his family and other officers for his oath. Officer Xiong will now
complete a four month training process before he will be certified for solo patrol.
