<br /> <br />Public Safety Commission <br />June 27, 2016 <br /> <br /> <br />Attending: Commissioner Allen, Commissioner Anderson, Commissioner Boyd, <br />Commissioner Conway, Commissioner Donohue, Commissioner Eichers, <br />Commissioner Hollimon, Commissioner Howard, Commissioner Lamp, <br />Commissioner Schumann, Council Member Strub, Deputy Director Paetznick, <br />Renee Rosenberg (Allina Health), and Melanie McMahon (Ramsey County <br />Attorney’s Office) <br /> <br />Absent: N/A <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order/Roll Call <br /> <br />Commissioner Allen called the June 27, 2016 meeting to order at 6:30 pm and roll call was taken. <br /> <br />April Meeting Minutes <br /> <br />The April meeting minutes were reviewed. Commissioner Eichers made a motion to approve the <br />April meeting minutes; Commissioner Boyd seconded. Commissioner Lamp abstained as she had <br />been unable to read them. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Public Hearing/Presentation <br />A. Auto Theft in Ramsey County – Melanie McMahon, Ramsey County Attorney’s Office <br /> <br />Ms. Melanie McMahon, Community Services Attorney, Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, attended <br />the June Public Safety Commission meeting to present information on auto theft in Ramsey County. <br /> <br />Ms. McMahon presented crime statistics, both national and state, for motor vehicle theft. Like many <br />property crimes, auto theft is often a crime of opportunity. Locally, there have been 25 auto thefts <br />during the last year; with the historical high occurring in 2005 when there were 66 auto thefts. <br /> <br />Ms. McMahon reviewed what role Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has; they have a dedicated <br />prosecutorial team specializing in auto theft, auto thieves are prosecuted in criminal court, they work <br />to identify hot spots and common methods used by auto thieves. <br /> <br />Ms. McMahon reviewed some prevention tips: <br />o Never leave your car running or unattended with the keys inside. <br />o Bring valuables and packages inside with you. <br />o Park in well-lit and accessible areas. <br />o Report suspicious behavior by calling 911. <br />o If your car is stolen, call 911. <br />o If you find your stolen vehicle, call 911. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
