This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency
Response Teams (CERT).

Public Safety staff was recently notified they received a grant from the State of
Minnesota Office of Justice Programs to support the purchase of additional Project
Lifesaver equipment. The grant in the amount of $2,000 will be utilized to purchase an
additional receiver and antenna set. The City of New Brighton participates in the
Ramsey County Project lifesaver program. When a client is reported missing the closest
four search teams, regardless of jurisdiction are notified. Throughout the County there
have been several successful searches already and the program has been extremely
successful.

On August 3rd the North Suburban HazMat Team participated in a full scale rail car
hazmat release exercise in conjunction with the City of Fridley, BNSF, and the
Minneapolis Fire Department at the Northtown Rail Yard. Despite the over 100 degree
heat indexes NSHM personnel donned Level A suits and were able to mitigate the
simulated release and rescue the simulated victim from the train Engine.
