She challenged the Commission to review the statute and encouraged Next Door Housing to attend
the October Planning Commission meeting.
Commissioner McPherson asked if any communities in the metro “opted-in” on this State regulation. Planning
Director Gundlach believed Osseo was the only community to opt-in.
Commissioner Frischman was interested to learn more from what the neighboring communities were doing to
address this topic. Planning Director Gundlach explained she would research this further and report back to the
Planning Commission.
Chair Nichols-Matkaiti recommended the health care aspects surrounding the need for a temporary health care
unit be written into the Ordinance. She suggested the units be required to be handicap accessible.
Commissioner Danger wanted to be ensured that the units were not inhabited by able-bodied children or close
relatives, but rather by those in need of health care assistance.
Planning Director Gundlach thanked the Commission for their input this evening and stated she would invite
Next Door to attend the October worksession meeting.

Adjournment:

Motion by Commissioner McPherson, seconded by Commissioner Danger, to adjourn the meeting.

7 Ayes, 0 Nayes, Motion carried.

Meeting adjourned at 9:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,

Janice Gundlach
Assistant Director of Community Assets and Development/Director of Planning
