Help others experience <br />our mission in delivering parks and recreation <br />services that improve the quality of life in New <br />Brighton. If interested, stop in and complete a <br />volunteer application and background check <br />the next time you visit the New Brighton <br />Community Center. <br />The following opportunities are available: <br />• Ideas For Life Senior Day 2016 – Volunteers <br />are needed to help with a variety of duties <br />during this celebration for seniors, June 8 <br />• NBCC Maintenance – Year round cleaning and <br />prepping of Community Center amenities. <br />• Gardeners – Looking for individuals who have <br />a green thumb to maintain flower beds/areas <br />in local parks and at the NBCC. <br />• Tree Planters – Looking for adults to assist <br />school aged children plant trees on National <br />Arbor Day, Hansen Park, Friday, April 29 <br />• Eagle or Girl Scout projects <br />• Adopt-a-Park – Organizations, clubs or <br />neighbors (commitment 4x a year) <br />• Kids Dance – Help with children during dance <br />class (Wednesdays 5pm-7pm) <br />• Youth Karate- Help special needs children at <br />Monday night classes from 6:15 pm-8:15 pm. <br />• Kitchen KutUps – Entertainers (Weekdays- <br />varying times) <br />• Computer, Marketing & Photography Skills <br />• Office assistance – administrative tasks <br />• Soccer Coaches (basic knowledge provided) <br />• Soccer Clinicians (soccer experience required) <br />• Youth T-Ball/Softball Coaches & Umpires <br />• Flag Football Coaches <br />• Water Safety Instructor Aid (American Red <br />Cross Training available and required) <br />• Tennis – Assist instructor 2 or 4 hours per <br />week (evenings 6:00 pm-8:00 pm or mornings <br />9:00 am-11:00 am) <br />• Ed-Ventures Day Care-Assist with kids ages <br />5-12 several times per week for 2-4 hours per <br />time <br />2015 Volunteer Data <br />New Brighton Parks and Recreation department <br />had 415 volunteers donating a total of 6710 <br />hours of their time and talents which equates <br />to the equivalent of 3.3 full-time employees. <br />Volunteers include coaches for various sports, <br />newsletter designers, golf league assistants, <br />park clean-up groups, aquatic youth assistants <br />and service groups that do one-time large <br />projects and many more! <br />National Volunteer Week is about inspiring, recognizing and encouraging <br />people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities. It’s about <br />demonstrating to the nation that by working together, we have the fortitude <br />to meet our challenges and accomplish our goals. The New Brighton Parks and <br />Recreation would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who have <br />contributed volunteer hours to our department in 2015. By sharing your time and <br />talents, you help our staff in delivering services to improve the quality of life here <br />in New Brighton and beyond. <br />Community Center Gardening Group <br />Do you have a green thumb, enjoy the outdoors and digging in <br />the dirt? We are looking for a group of volunteers to get involved in <br />taking ownership and pride in maintaining the seasonal flower pots at the <br />community center, local parks, summer weeding and some larger landscaping <br />projects. This is a perfect opportunity for a business team, scout/church groups <br />or senior housing residents, who don't have access to gardening opportunities <br />to get involved. Interested? Call Lesley at 651-638-2148 or email at <br />lesley.young@newbrightonmn.gov. Some supplies/tools needed are included <br />however you are welcome to bring your own. Projects and maintenance plans <br />are already in place and can be assigned at your convenience. <br />Adopt-A- Park <br />The Adopt-a-Park Program is designed to encourage partnerships between citizen <br />groups and the City of New Brighton to help maintain and enhance parks and <br />open space. This program is intended to be fun, educational and worthwhile. By <br />participating, groups and individuals can take an active role in the beautification <br />of their community. <br />Any individual or family, community organization, school, faith community, <br />neighborhood, service club, youth group or business is encouraged to participate. <br />We only require a minimum of four clean up visits to a park in a one year period. <br />All you have to do is select a park and apply with the New Brighton Parks and <br />Recreation Department. Other beautification or service <br />projects upon approval are also available to those interested. Please remember <br />that you must apply every year. <br />We would like to thank all of the service organizations and families below who <br />constantly help beautify the trails and Parks within the City of New Brighton.
