Is that already in
budget or will it be charged somehow to neighbors?
 I also learned recently that the neighbors living on Oakwood facing the park have major water issues in
rainstorms due to runoff from the courts & parking lot. With the above changes, could drainage be
improved? Maybe a rain garden between park lot & street – or something else?
 Another suggestion: The sandy area around the merry -go-round (the whole section of sand) really needs
to be tilled and the weeds removed. Park staff appeared to have weeded it in the early spring – than you!
– but it wasn’t tilled & weed roots removed, so the crab grass, etc. came back aggressively. My kids love
to play in the sand there, but the only place without weeds & with sand that is loose enough is right
around the merry-go-round – clearly not a safe place if anyone wants to use the merry -go-round. Thank
you so much for all your efforts to keep our parks nice!
2. Gaga ball court, volleyball court, update basketball court.
3. Another idea would be to replace the existing tennis court with a new court but paint Pickleball lines on the
court. They did this at the tennis court near the Equinox Apartments. Please consider everything possible but do
not take the tennis court away. We have lived at our house near the park for 17 years and that tennis court is
always being used! Thank you! Michael Dick.
4. Consider moving basketball court to South side of tennis courts – current court is on crest of hill, balls
constantly rolling down ill, open green space near baseball field prevent biking on grass (kids come/go not using
paved area) closer to street and parking lot may prevent this – and make it easier to monitor. Also – gazebo? This
is a magnet for frequent and late-night activity – consider removing.
5. Add 2 basketball hoops on one end. Basketball could be played when tennis court not in use. Lee Antell, 612 -
584-8282.
6. Add a rebounder wall at one end of the court to allow for sole tennis practice. There is one in Windsor Court if
you would like an example.
7. This was listed as a 2nd Choice. Cabana-style multi -purpose table games, like chess, checkers, etc. with wood or
synthetic ground cover.
8. We have been very disappointed with the quality of the playground equipment the park. It is an accident waiting
to happen for all ages of kids. Over the years, as a childcare provider and now a grandparent, we would walk to
this park as well as drive to numerous other parks in the New Brighton area, Silver Oak Park should be replaced
with better and safer equipment before anything is done with the tennis court. We have noticed many more
children trying to use the play equipment than come to use the tennis courts. This is a letter I should have written
when the equipment was installed. We would like to see any money spent go toward an improvement for the kids
fun & especially safety.
