Options for installing permanent pickleball courts include marking current tennis
courts for pickleball, removing a tennis court and replacing with pickleball, or
constructing entirely new pickleball courts.

The most cost effective replacement would be to mark current tennis courts for
pickleball play. The markings would be done in a way to allow full pickleball
courts with portable nets. Staff estimates the costs for this to be $2,000.

A second option would be to replace a current tennis court with pickleball courts.
Generally, 2 pickleball courts can be installed in the place of one tennis court.
With the exception of Silver Oaks, the remaining courts do not need repairs and
are not scheduled to be replaced until 2022. However, staff doesn’t believe that
Silver Oaks Park is the location best suited for pickleball because the footprint is
only one tennis court, and there is limited parking available at the site.

The third and recommended option would be to reconstruct the tennis court in its
current location and add pickleball markings on either side of the tennis net.
Portable pickleball nets would be provided to make this court a dual purpose
area. Dedicated pickleball courts could then be added in the future when
Freedom, Hansen and Hidden Oaks are scheduled to be reconstructed in 2022.
Internal staff estimates to reconstruct Silver Oaks is $45,000. It does need to be
noted that this estimate does not include any type of subsurface work or soil
borings to determine if the current court area needs to be graded or filled to help
prevent early deterioration of a new court surface.
