<br />Department Reports <br />A. Human Rights <br /> <br />Acting Director Paetznick noted the New Brighton League of Women Voters will be sponsoring a <br />panel on racial justice on Monday, November 14, starting at 7 pm at Christ the King Lutheran <br />Church. He will forward more information about this to the Commissioners. <br /> <br />B. Allina Health <br />Mr. Dave Matteson reported Allina Health participated in 3 active shooter drills in the past 2 weeks. <br />The most recent one was held at Wayzata High School with adults portraying students and they <br />practiced barricading techniques. This drill provided a lot of good learning and good experience. <br />Mr. Matteson was an evaluator for this drill. <br /> <br />Mr. Matteson reported there has been a round of heroin over doses; 3 at the Mall of America and 6 in <br />Anoka County, resulting in 2 deaths. He reported law enforcement in these two areas do not know <br />yet if the heroin all came from the same supplier. <br /> <br />Commissioner Eichers inquired about New Brighton’s School Resource Officers (SRO) and what <br />their role is at their respective schools and especially as it relates to an active shooter. Acting <br />Director Paetznick stated he will work on having our SRO’s attend a future meeting to discuss this <br />for the commission. <br /> <br />C. Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> <br />Commissioner Allen noted the next VIPS meeting will be held tomorrow night, Tuesday, October <br />25th. <br /> <br />D. Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> <br />Acting Director Paetznick noted the following items: <br /> <br />o Public Safety has a new “Common Operating Picture” where department information is <br />broadcast on an internal TV channel. <br />o The Fire Department Open House is happening until 8:00 pm. Allina is in attendance at this <br />event, VIPS are selling bike helmets, and the new fire truck is on display. <br />o Our two new officers, Officer Kostohryz and Officer Nordhus, will take the Oath of Office at <br />tomorrow’s Council meeting. <br /> <br />Commissioner Schumann asked Acting Director Paetznick what our department “wish list” items <br />were for the 2017 budget. Acting Director Paetznick stated our “wish list” items are to have 4 full- <br />time PSO’s, add a civilian Crime Analyst position, and to add a civilian Crime Prevention Specialist <br />position. <br /> <br />Council Liaison <br />A. Council Report <br /> <br />Council Member Brian Strub thanked Mr. Dave Matteson for the Allina tour last month and he <br />appreciated bring invited. <br />
