Councilmember Burg asked what Ms. Kessler believed were the three most important responsibilities a
commission member has to the community.
Ms. Kessler thought it was important to support police and fire with the technology and tools they needed. She
stated she would like to see body -cameras put in place and for the department to move into the 21St century.
She appreciated the fact that social workers were sent at times instead of police officers. She wanted to see
greater coordination between mental health professionals and police officers. She also wanted the City's
officers trained to better address mental health issues. She also wanted to see safety improved along Old
Highway 8 year DQ.
Mayor Johnson asked how Ms. Kessler would handle a situation where someone contacted her voicing
opposition to an item being discussed at your commission. She questioned if this would change if this person
was a family member or close friend.
Ms. Kessler stated she works well with people who do not always agree with her.
Councilmember Jacobsen asked how Ms. Kessler would represent herself in the public if there was a policy or
Ordinance she disagreed with.
Ms. Kessler indicated she would work to try and change it, within the boundaries of the law. She stated she
would work to make changes for the better.
Councilmember Bauman asked which of the following strikes her as the most interesting: land use and
variance, economic programs, business retention and redevelopment, impacts of recreation in the community,
or the impacts of public safety services.
Ms. Kessler stated she was move interested in public safety. Her second area of interest would be land use.
Mayor Johnson asked if Ms. Kessler had any questions for the Council.
Ms. Kessler questioned when the Public Safety Commission meets.
Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission meets on the last Monday of every month. He
indicated the group would be meeting next on Monday, March 27th at 6:30 p.m.
Mayor Johnson encouraged Ms. Kessler to contact the City with any further questions he may have. She
thanked Ms. Kessler for coming forward and being willing to serve the City.
Worksession adjourned at 6:28 pm
Respectfully submitted,
Sandra Daniloff
Deputy City Clerk
