Of <br />BRUT"PM <br />the city that works for you <br />Council Worksession <br />March 7, 2017 <br />5:00 pm <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Terri Marohn <br />Guests in Attendance: Nasreen Fynewever, Lanny Law, William Cook, Stephanie Malone <br />Mayor Johnson stated next Monday she would be testifying down at the House requesting a $15,000 per year <br />Legacy Grant to assist with treating Long Lake. She provided the Council with an update on the information <br />that has been gathered to date regarding the Comprehensive Plan. She was pleased by the amount of valuable <br />input that had been provided by the public. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen discussed the upcoming Rice Creek Watershed District meeting. Lotter reported all <br />residents that would be impacted by their project were notified by letter of this meeting. <br />Councilmember Strub questioned how the project would proceed given the fact the weather did not cooperate <br />this winter. Lotter provided further comment on how this project would proceed and noted a junior soccer <br />field may be placed on the berm. <br />Councilmember Burg requested lacrosse also be allowed to use this field space. Lotter did not anticipate this <br />would be a concern. He described the slideshow that staff was creating for the meeting next week. <br />Councilmember Strub asked if a wood chip trail could be constructed within the Hanson Park during the <br />interim construction period. <br />Mayor Johnson supported this recommendation and understood Hanson Park was a gem of a park within the <br />City and she looked forward to having this project completed. She looked forward to discussing the concerns <br />of this project with New Brighton residents next week. <br />Mayor Johnson questioned if the Council was interested in appointing a youth representative to each of the <br />City's commissions. The Council was in support of this recommendation. <br />Mayor Johnson stated she would draft a plan for youth commissioners and what their role would be and would <br />present this information to the Council at a future meeting. Lotter stated he could place this item on the April <br />4 I Council worksession agenda. <br />
