March 28, 2017 <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the draft community wide survey was being processed by staff. <br />He was pleased by the amount of positive feedback that had been received. He explained that <br />the City's water supply was an area of concern. He stated Public Work Superintendent Boller <br />has been asked to speak at the AWWA Conference next week regarding the City's drinking <br />water challenges. He commented on his representation efforts at the Capitol regarding the <br />importance of sustainable drinking water. He indicated the best value evaluation of the water <br />treatment plant expansion contract had been completed and a recommendation would be <br />brought to the Council in the near future. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Cable Commission would be holding a strategic <br />planning meeting Thursday where a draft budget would be discussed. She explained the EDC <br />would be meeting on Wednesday, Apr•i1 5th at 7:30 a.m. <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission met last night and discussed <br />body -worn cameras. He stated the Public Safety Department would be following Minnesota <br />State law regarding body -worn cameras and public input would be taken prior to implementing <br />a system. He encouraged the public to get involved in this process. He indicated there would <br />be a blood drive, sponsored by VIPS, at the Public Safety Departmem on Wednesday, March <br />29th. On behalf ofthe Fire Department, he reminded the public to clean their lint screens after <br />each use. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Planning Commission met on Tuesday, March 21 st and <br />the group discussed the temporary family health care dwelling ordinance. He anticipated this <br />ordinance would be coming before the Council in April. He discussed the events that have <br />occurred at Hanson Park recently. He congratulated Kevin Fields for being named the Chair of <br />PREC. <br />iklan, Bur, <br />Councilmember Burg reported she was honored to represent the City of New Brighton in <br />Washington DC at the National League of Cities Conference. She indicated this event was <br />very well attended and she learned a great deal. She discussed how the proposed federal <br />budget would impact cities. She discussed the "Meet a Muslim" movement that was occurring <br />across the nation. She explained she recently attended the League of Women Voter's meeting <br />where City Clerk Marohn and Barb Suchi provided a presentation on the recent elections. She <br />then reviewed the items discussed be PREC at their March meeting, which included dog parks <br />and pickle ball. She encouraged the public to get involved in Stockyard Days. <br />Manor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported on her legislative efforts and thanked the local representatives for <br />their assistance at recent State hearings. She indicated she recently attended a Twin Cities <br />Gateway meeting. She explained she was really impressed by the great work being completed <br />by this organization. She stated she met with the Isaiah Group to discuss their priorities in <br />local government. She anticipated this group would be approaching the Council in the coming <br />months to discuss an immigration policy. She thanked all residents who have provided <br />feedback on the Comprehensive Plan. She commented on the work occurring at Hanson Park <br />by the Rice Creek Watershed District.
