Mayor Johnson requested the Council now address the appointments for the Public Safety Commission. She <br />understood Jeff Anderson resigned last night, which meant the group had another opening. She noted Mike <br />Donahue turned in his application late and the Council agreed to not honor this. She believed Ken Shuman and <br />Dave Eikers should be replaced. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if Judith had been considered. <br />Mayor Johnson stated she had neglected to put her on the list for consideration because she was off <br />Councilmember Bauman asked why Ken Shuman should be replaced. Mayor Johnson stated this <br />recommendation was being made based on feedback she received from people within the Public Safety <br />Department. She stated Mr. Shuman questions the City's Code of Ethics. <br />Councilmember Strub added that Mr. Shuman had made an unappreciated comment about video recordings <br />being edited when staff suggested the Public Safety Commission meetings be recorded. <br />Mayor Johnson stated for this reason she recommended Mr. Shuman not be allowed back on the Public Safety <br />Commission. <br />Councilmember Burg believed people should be able to serve on this group without feeling intimidated. <br />Councilmember Bauman stated he spoke to Mr. Shuman regarding his comment on the Code of Ethics and his <br />comment was misconstrued. She did not believe the Council should be removing people from Commissions <br />on a yearly basis based on their perceived actions. <br />Councilmember Burg commented she was willing to replace currently serving members by those that were <br />willing to enthusiastically serve the community. She believed that Ken Shuman was a negative force on this <br />Commission and should be replaced by someone that had a more positive outlook on the City. She fully <br />supported the replacement of Mr. Shuman. <br />Councilmember Bauman questioned if the City would be evaluating the replacement of other Commission <br />members. <br />Councilmember Burg stated the answer was yes, however she did not have any other members she wanted to <br />remove. While she understood Commission members were put in place to brainstorm and provide challenging <br />ideas, she feared that Mr. Shuman's tone was too negative. <br />Councilmember Bauman stated she has been shot down in the past when she recommended Commission <br />members be replaced. She explained she did not agree with several of the Mayor's recommendations for the <br />Public Safety Department appointments. <br />Councilmember Strub supported the list of recommendations provided by the Mayor for the Public Safety <br />Commission. <br />Councilmember Bauman requested further comment from the Mayor on her recommendations for the Public <br />Safety Commission. <br />Mayor Johnson stated her recommendations were made based on their qualifications, interview and <br />preferences. She understood that Todd and Drew were both highly qualified individuals as well. <br />
