In reviewing the responsibilities and qualifications for this volunteer position, I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to serve my community! I have worked in higher education - the MnSCU system (Dakota County Technical College, Saint Paul College and Century College) for over 5 years and Concordia University in St Paul for a year and a half - and have enjoyed it immensely. I would love the opportunity to serve as a volunteer on a City Commission as a means of providing support to local government and public safety organizations. I would bring a diverse and enriched background of higher education instruction and advising leadership to this position, as well as strong advocacy and policy experience. Specifically, I have worked within college and community groups to ensure safety and legal protection for international students, as well as advocating on their behalf to members of Congress and the US Senate. My family and I have lived in New Brighton for over a year and have found it to be a wonderful community of diverse opinion and thoughtful citizens. I am interested in volunteering because I have a desire to assist in the governance and policy-making which is so important at the local level. I want our community to be a safe, healthy and enriching place for my two sons to grow up in, and I believe local government is the primary driver in creating that community.
