<br /> <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br /> <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consider Extending the Sunday Hours of Operation at the New <br />Brighton Community Center <br /> <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Jason Hicks, Acting Director of Parks and <br />Recreation <br />CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: <br /> <br /> <br />No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______ <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />Extend the Sunday hours of operation at the New Brighton Community Center (NBCC) to open <br />to the public at 8 am on Sundays, instead of 10 am, May 1, 2017 through December 31, 2017. <br /> <br />Legislative History: <br />January 26, 2016 – Council referred a petition requesting the hours of NBCC to open at 8 am on <br />Sunday to the Parks, Recreational and Environmental Commission (PREC) for their review and <br />recommendation. <br /> <br />March 2, 2016 PREC recommended extending the Sunday hours of operation at the New <br />Brighton Community Center to open to the public at 8 am on Sundays, instead of 10 am, <br />beginning in October 2016 through April of 2017 <br /> <br />March 22, 2016 – Council approved extending the Sunday hours of operation at the New <br />Brighton Community Center (NBCC) to open to the public at 8 am on Sundays, instead of 10 <br />am, beginning in October 2016 through April of 2017 <br /> <br />April 5, 2017 PREC recommended extending the Sunday hours of operation of New Brighton <br />Community Center (NBCC) to open to the public at 8 am on Sundays instead of 10 am, for the <br />remainder of the 2017 calendar year. <br /> <br />Financial Impact: <br />The 2017 General Fund Budget includes funding to provide staff at NBCC on Sunday mornings <br />beginning at 8 am. The projected costs for additional staffing wages and salary related expenses <br />have been calculated to be $2,283.84 per year or $1,493.28 for the months of May through <br />December, 2017. This figure is based off a $43.92/week cost for staffing. <br /> <br />Explanation: <br />The NBCC currently serves two rental groups that begin their events prior to 10 am in addition <br />to Exclusive Use Birthday Parties in the Eagles Nest that begin at 9 am. Between the hours of 8 <br />am and 10 am an average of 17 members checked in per week.
