REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consider appointing Erin Nichols Matkaiti as the Planning Commission chairperson and Steve Danger as vice-chair for the upcoming year. DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & Development CITY MANAGER APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______ Recommendation: Accept the Planning Commission’s recommendation to appoint Erin Nichols Matkaiti as the Planning Commission chairperson and Steve Danger as vice-chair for the upcoming year. Legislative History: April 18, 2017: Commissioner Frischman made a motion to recommend Commissioner Nichols Matkaiti to serve as chairperson for the next year. Commissioner Danger seconded the motion and it passed 6-0. Commissioner Nichols Matkaiti indicated her willingness to continue to serve as chairperson. Commissioner Matkaiti made a motion to recommend Commissioner Danger to service as vice- chair for the next year. Commissioner Frischman seconded the motion and it passed 6-0. Commissioner Danger indicated his willingness to serve as vice-chair. Financial Impact: None Explanation: In accordance with City Code Section 2-64 (1), the Planning Commission recommended chair and vice-chair appointments for the upcoming year at their April 18, 2017 meeting. Only two Commission members, Nichols Matkaiti and Danger, meet the City Code requirements of Section 2-64 (2) (A) by having completed at least one term. Of the remaining five commission members, two are newly appointed (Jones & Fynewever), and three (Frischman, Miwa, and Murphy) have only served for one year.
