May 9, 2017 Page 5 of 5 <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter invited the Council to attend the National Police Week event on <br />Thursday, May 18th at Salam Covenant at 11:00 a.m. He noted staff was in the final stages of <br />due diligence with APi. He provided the Council with an update on TUV SUD and Lions <br />Park. He was pleased to report the funding gap for Lions Park had been reduced from $40,000 <br />to $7,400. <br /> <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported he recently attended the Partnering for Education Luncheon. <br />He thanked the community for their attending the recent Town Hall meeting. He thanked staff <br />for putting together a solid program for this meeting. He sent a Happy Mother’s Day to all <br />mothers in the community. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported she attended the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and noted this <br />event was very well attended by over 100 individuals. She thanked Cindy Lusher for her <br />assistance with this event. She noted the Volunteer of the Year was awarded to Dallas Shuuti. <br />She explained PREC recently reviewed Lions Park and the Eagles Nest proposals. She stated <br />PREC would be meeting again on May 10th to address these issues. She noted Dairy Queen <br />would be donating 10% of its proceeds on Tuesday’s, beginning on May 23rd, for Park and <br />Recreation Scholarships. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen noted National Police Week would begin Sunday, May 14th and <br />would run through Saturday, May 20th. He invited the public to attend the ceremony being <br />held at Salem Covenant Church on Thursday, May 18th at 11:00 a.m. He reminded the public <br />that recreational fires were limited to three feet in diameter and residents were required to have <br />a water source nearby. He thanked staff for their dedicated work on behalf of the residents of <br />New Brighton. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson reported the Stockyard Days Committee was meeting monthly at The <br />Exchange. Those interested in serving on this committee were encouraged to contact the <br />Mayor. She stated work continues on the Comprehensive Plan. She thanked Council and staff <br />for all of their assistance at the Town Hall meeting. She explained she recently spoke at a <br />Community Support Center event and thanked this group for the great work they were doing <br />for New Brighton residents.
