<br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />July 25, 2017 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson <br /> Councilmember Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Janice Gundlach, Jason Hicks <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: Bryan Harjes, HKGi <br /> <br />Comprehensive Plan Update – Launch of Phase 2 Community Engagement <br />Gundlach stated Bryan Harjes with HKGi was in attendance to provide the Council with an update on Phase 2 <br />of the Community Engagement portion of the Comprehensive Plan. <br /> <br />Bryan Harjes, HKGi, commented on the Community Engagement efforts that have been conducted by staff <br />and City consultants to date. He stated he was pleased by the number of residents that have gotten involved <br />and have provided input. He discussed the key feedback that has been provided to date and explained he was <br />looking forward to gaining additional feedback from the public through Phase 2 of this project. He then <br />reviewed the idea cards that would be used at Stockyard Days and requested feedback from the Council on the <br />concept. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub suggested all of the community comments be combined into a narrative table for the <br />public to review at Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson stated she loved the idea card and believed it was open to any comments from the public. She <br />explained she would like staff to consider the redevelopment of the area surrounding Ken’s Market. She <br />indicated she would like to see a bus line going by Irondale in order to meet the needs of teens in the <br />community. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman recommended the car wash and the surrounding properties also be considered for <br />redevelopment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub believed the idea cards were well done and he found it to be an approachable concept. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen agreed that the idea cards were well done and he looked forward to learning more <br />from the public. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson commented on the brands that neighboring communities had created and she stated she would <br />like to see New Brighton to consider its own branding. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg suggested City staff and the City Council spread the word about the idea cards during
