RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />RESOLUTION authorizing City staff to indicate interest in participating in the US <br />Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Community Air Partnership Program. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City is a member of Green Step Cities, which provides information and a <br />framework to engage in sustainable behaviors, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, through the City’s participation in Green Step Cities the City is provided direct <br />access to free technical assistance and advisors that can help guide the City to achieving <br />sustainability through implementation of best practices that focus on cost savings, energy use <br />reduction and innovations, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, through our participation in Green Step Cities, the City was approached by the <br />US EPA as a possible candidate community to benefit from the EPA’s Community Air Partnership <br />program, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, selected Community Air Partnership program communities receive the following <br />assistance: <br /> Priority access to EPA grant funds, <br /> On-the-ground technical assistance to address air quality issues, <br /> Assistance in targeting opportunities to increase energy efficiency in the public/private <br />sector, <br /> Development of community work groups to address air quality and energy efficiency, <br /> Air quality compliance assistance for businesses, <br /> Educational workshops for residents and city staff, <br /> Energy and air quality benchmarking of school district, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, if selected the City staff would have access to EPA staff in its air programs, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, participation in the Community Air Partnership program would include working <br />with local interested groups, including the City’s Crime Free Multi-Family Housing Coalition, <br />Mounds View School District 621, Chamber of Commerce, and/or local businesses, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, in order to be considered as a Community Air Partnership program community, <br />the City must indicate formal interest in participating in the program. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of New Brighton is <br />hereby indicating interest in participating in the EPA’s Community Air Partnership program and <br />elects Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & Development to serve as the City’s <br />coordinator for this program. <br />
