RESOLUTION NO. ________ <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION CREATING AN INCLUSIVE COMMUNITY TASK FORCE <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council believes in having a welcoming community for all; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Mayor has held meetings with city staff and city residents interested in identifying <br />opportunities to engage all of New Brighton’s residents; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council of New Brighton believes New Brighton already works hard to <br />engage residents and wants to continue expanding on those efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council believes there is a need for a more formal and proactive approach <br />towards creating an inclusive community, in which more diverse populations could be included in <br />community engagement efforts; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council believes creation of a task force would have a mission of ensuring <br />the City is taking advantage of every opportunity to make sure all residents experience a sense of <br />inclusion; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council believes appointment to this task force would include members of <br />the community recommended directly to the council for consideration. And additional members (3 to 5) <br />the first quarter of 2018 during the traditional application for commission time period. <br /> <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of New Brighton, <br />Minnesota that an Inclusive Community Task Force will be created for the following reasons: <br /> <br />1) How to continue existing and foster new partners within the three Mounds View Public Schools in <br />our borders. It can be with district people or NB people so that we (continue to) join efforts in <br />programs, people, and a pulse on our residents. <br /> <br />2) Barriers and challenges such as transportation, language, technological (communication outlets), <br />institutional and physical barriers that limit access to information and active engagement for <br />sociologically disadvantage, disabled, youth, elderly and communities of color also need to be <br />identified and addressed. <br /> <br />3) Creating a contact list that would be inclusive of all community organizations (business, geographic, <br />cultural, schools, etc) that could be used as a liaison for notifying them of important updates, for <br />reaching out to them and for requesting their input. <br /> <br />4) The City of New Brighton should strive to create a workforce, including elected and appointed <br />officials, and volunteer resources that contain a broad range of diversity including race, gender, <br />language, life experience, and cultural background to improve understanding and effectiveness in <br />dealing with all communities. <br /> <br />5) A standing Task Force on inclusivity should identify ways to make New Brighton welcoming to all <br />residents or people who would choose to live here including those with disabilities. Others have <br />identified race/cultural/ethnicity others have identified LBGTQ we shouldn’t forget those with <br />disabilities. <br />
