She indicated her responsibility was to the community <br />and to do what was best for New Brighton. She stated she would be supporting the motion on the floor. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen commented this was a really hard situation for the Council to be in. He discussed <br />the history of the Korean Church property and noted he attended elementary school there. He stated he <br />appreciated the rich history and culture of the Tibetan community and would like to see the Council assist <br />them in finding another space in order for them to remain in New Brighton. <br />Councilmember Bauman reiterated the Council gave a directive to their realtor on Korean Church bid. She <br />agreed this was a very difficult situation but explained the City was working to redevelop this site to meet a <br />growing housing need in the community. She encouraged the Tibetan community to consider a space share <br />agreement with the seminary. <br />Mayor Johnson believed there were other opportunities within New Brighton. She encouraged the leaders of <br />the Tibetan community to sit down with staff in order to help them find a space to meet their needs. <br /> <br />4 Ayes, 0 Nays-Motion Carried <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the leadership team continues to work with the Army on an <br />optimization study for the water situation on TCAAP. He explained the City was considering <br />adding Well No. 16 to meet the needs of the City. He provided an update on the water <br />treatment facility and encouraged the Council to visit the site. He stated the Lions Park <br />playground equipment would be installed on September 25th. It was his hope the park would <br />be open the first Tuesday in October. He indicated the final three Parks Director candidates <br />would be interviewed on August 23rd. <br /> <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Cable Commission met last week and was beginning to <br />work through the 2018 budget. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported PREC will met next on September 6th. She noted the Eagle’s <br />Nest would be closing on September 4th for renovations. She discussed the upcoming Cops <br />and Bobbers event which would be held on August 29th at the Long Lake Regional Park. She <br />thanked Mayor Johnson for all of her work on Stockyard Days. <br /> <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported the Public Safety Commission met on August 14th and <br />discussed body worn cameras. He was pleased to report 574 residents took the Public Safety <br />Department survey and also received comments internally. He congratulated the new <br />Stockyard Days royalty and wished them well in the next year. He thanked the Stockyard <br />Days Committee for another successful event. He noted filing had closed for Council <br />candidates. He thanked those how had stepped forward and were willing to serve. He <br />encouraged residents to be mindful that it was back to school time. He recommended drivers <br />use caution when driving in and around school zones. He congratulated the Fire Division on <br />their efforts and for being awarded the Fire Department of the Year. Lastly, he invited the <br />public to visit the Farmer’s Market each Wednesday at the seminary from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson <br />Mayor Johnson commented on a recent event she attended at the Fire Department where the <br />Public Safety Department read a book and invited children into the department.
