community. She asked if the student numbers had been predicted beyond 2023. Mr. Tynjala stated the <br />numbers had not. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman questioned if the school district would be asking for another levy after this one <br />expired. Mr. Tynjala stated this would be a decision of the future School Board. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman explained her taxes would go up $416 per year if the levy were approved. She stated <br />the School District was requesting a great deal of money. She commented on the age of the buildings in the <br />Minneapolis School District. Mr. Tynjala commented on how the District was focusing on space and the <br />changing needs for space. While he understood the District was asking for a large amount of money he also <br />noted this was a very large school district. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson inquired if the bond took into account the development that could occur on TCAAP. Ms. <br />Sager stated this was the case. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub indicated his property tax impact would be much less as he does not live on Long Lake. <br />He explained he supported safe entry into the schools and asked for further information on how the District <br />was proposing to protect its students. Mr. Lennox described how the School District would be reconfiguring <br />the entrance points for all schools to ensure it flows through the Main Office. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked if work would be done on all schools. Mr. Tynjala reported the work would be spread <br />out among all of the buildings and was fairly well balanced. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub questioned what cities could do to make themselves more prepared for the next <br />generation of home buyers. Ms. Sager believed that cities were considering economic development <br />opportunities and noted Mounds View schools retains the majority of its graduates. She believed its graduates <br />were quite proud of the School District. Mr. Tynjala provided further comment on the high value the School <br />District was provided to homes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked how class sizes were going to be reduced. Mr. Tynjala explained some <br />schools would be adding space, while others would have their space reconfigured. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman encouraged the Council to view the preliminary schematics for the School District <br />buildings on the ISD 621 website. She questioned if the District still offered PSEO. Mr. Tynjala noted this <br />was still being offered, along with College in the Schools. He explained that the schematic drawings were <br />preliminary and anticipated changes would be made. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub discussed how his street had turned over and noted there was a large increase in the <br />number of children attending school. <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman questioned the purpose of tonight’s presentation. Mr. Lennox stated he wanted to <br />inform the Council of the School District’s needs. Lotter noted there was a citizens group called Neighbors <br />United that asked the Council to approve a Resolution of Support for the referendum. He explained a copy of <br />this Resolution was provided to the Council. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson asked how the Council felt about a Resolution of Support. <br /> <br />Councilmember Strub noted a candidate forum was held in New Brighton last night. He explained that the <br />great school district was brought up on numerous occasions. He commented on the great relationship that <br />occurred between the City of New Brighton and the School District. He indicated he fully supported the City
