October 10 , 2017 Page 1 of 6 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday <br />October 10, 2017 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Johnson, Councilmembers Bauman, Burg, Jacobsen and Strub <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Also Present: Dean Lotter-City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:3 0 pm. <br /> <br />Pledge of Allegiance <br />Mayor Johnson led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson acknowledged Fire Captain Mark Freeden and noted he was laid to rest today <br />at St. John’s. She thanked the staff and Councilmembers that were able to attend this <br />remarkable event. She sent her condolences to the Freeden family on behalf of the New <br />Brighton City Council a nd Public Safety Department. <br /> <br />Public Comment Forum <br />Mayor Johnson opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br /> <br />Nasreen Fynewever, 1300 NW Parkway, encouraged the Council to support the Inclusive <br />Community Task Force. She believed the task force would allow New Brighton to be a leader <br />in this area. She suggested the task force meet for six months in order to learn about the <br />strengths and areas of weakness regarding the minority populations in the community. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth, 1598 23rd Avenue NW, e xplained her family was the victim of a hate crime <br />several months ago. She noted all of the books in her little library were taken in the middle of <br />the night and a racial slur was left in their place. She implored the Council to create the <br />Inclusive Community Task Force. She believed the task force was a positive step in the right <br />direction and would give all those living in the community a voice. She wanted all residents of <br />New Brighton to feel welcome. <br /> <br />Rachel Nelson, 2360 County Road E West - #3, stated she has been fortunate in her life to have <br />parents that could afford to own a home. She explained she appreciated the idea of an <br />Inclusive Community Task Force as this would allow the City to hear new voices. She <br />applauded the Council’s efforts and encouraged them to support the Inclusive Community <br />Task Force. <br /> <br />Courtney Morton, 715 Forestdale Road, stated she supported the Inclusive Community Task <br />Force and thought this was a great idea.
