December 12, 2017 Page 1 of 10 <br />Of <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br />IriBORIA11HTON <br />Me city that works for you THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday <br />December 12, 2017 at 6;30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. . <br />Present: Mayor Johnson, Councilmembers Bauman, Burg, Jacobsen and Strub <br />Absent: <br />Also Present: Dean Lotter -City Manager, Sarah Sonsalla-City Attorney, Brenda Davitt-Finance <br />Director <br />Call to Order Call to Order <br />Mayor Johnson called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br />Pledpe of Allep-lance <br />Mayor Johnson led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Public Comment Forum <br />Mayor Johnson opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br />Gary Martin, 527 Second Avenue NW, explained he lives near Hanson Park and commented <br />on the pond dredging. He discussed the height of the dredging pile and expressed concern with <br />the fact he would have to look at this all winter. He requested the Council save Hanson Park <br />and lower this pile to a reasonable height. He stated he was speaking on behalf of a large <br />number of his neighbors. <br />Dan Dobbs, 675 Fourth Avenue NW, stated County Road E by the granite and marble <br />company has an open lot in front of it. He described how the snow runoff from this property <br />makes its way down to Hanson Park. He encouraged the Council to address this issue for <br />environmental purposes. <br />Susan Erickson, 2012 29t1i Avenue NW, stated at a previous meeting Mayor Johnson <br />commented on the ugly campaigning that was conducted during the previous election. She <br />agreed this was the worst display of non-partisan behavior ever. She thanked Councilmember <br />Gina Bauman for serving as a dedicated voice for the residents of New Brighton over the past <br />12 years. She admired Councilmember Bauman for being principled and well-prepared. She <br />believed that Councilmember Bauman was not self-serving, but rather worked to do her best <br />for the City. She stated Councilmember Bauman would be greatly missed. <br />Kathleen Ganley, 300 King Street West in St. Paul, introduced herself to the City Council and <br />noted America had a message for the Council. <br />America addressed the City Council and noted she came to Minnesota from Kansas when she <br />was one year old. She stated she attends Bel Air Elementary School where students are treated <br />with respect. She thanked the Council for their time and attention. <br />Sandra, 143 Morris Street, greeted the Council and noted she was the mother of three children.) <br />She explained she has lived in New Brighton for the past eight years and her children attend <br />school at Irondale High School, Highview and Bel Air Elementary. She expressed concern <br />regarding the Police Department's abuse of authority. She indicated the Police Department did <br />Pledge of Alleeiance <br />Public Comment <br />Forum <br />
