11

Starting in January of 2017, as part of our collaborative law enforcement efforts in
Ramsey County and in partnership with the Emergency Communications Center (ECC)
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) capabilities, we are joining with all other police
agencies countywide in enhancing our traffic stop data collecting by adding another
measurable along with those already collected during traffic stops, which include race,
gender, search vehicle, and search person. In addition to these four previously existing
criteria, New Brighton police officers will report on the “Reason for the Stop”. This
change was done in an effort to increase transparency and to provide much needed
context to the currently collected traffic stop data. The officer can choose from the
following reasons: moving violation, vehicle violation (equipment, registration, etc.),
investigative stop, or 911 call/citizen reported.
