12 <br />The New Brighton Department of Public Safety hosted “Story Time at the Fire Station” <br />through our partnership with the Ramsey County Library. We welcomed 175 children <br />and 95 adults to the apparatus bays. We appreciate the energetic reading by Firefighter <br />Bob Reif (who was serenaded by the attendees with the Happy Birthday song!) and <br />assistance of Firefighter Abdallah Kadid helping all of the youngsters get safely in and <br />out of the fire truck after story time. <br /> <br />VI. BIAS CRIME REPORTS <br /> <br />This section will contain any information regarding bias and/or hate crimes in the City of <br />New Brighton. <br /> <br />VII. VOLUNTEER SERVICES <br /> <br />This section contains information on our various volunteer organizations related to Public <br />Safety. This includes the activities of the Public Safety Commission, Police Reserves, <br />Police Explorers, and Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS). <br /> <br />Public Safety volunteers and staff were kept busy last week. A total of 15 members of <br />the Police Reserves donated 220 hours of service, from posting no parking signs and <br />flyers on Wednesday, conducting traffic control during the Thursday parade, and <br />providing a proactive presence during the two nights of streets dances on Friday and <br />Saturday. In addition, nine Police Reserves from our neighboring cities of St. Anthony, <br />Roseville, and Columbia Heights assisted with staffing key intersections during the <br />Thursday evening parade. <br /> <br />On August 20, the New Brighton Police Explorer advisers conducted their monthly <br />meeting for the New Brighton Police Explorer Post. <br /> <br />The New Brighton Police Reserves volunteered a total of 399 hours for the month of <br />August. <br /> <br />VIII. HOMELAND SECURITY AND EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT <br /> <br />This section will review ongoing activities for homeland security and emergency <br />management. This includes the activities of the New Brighton Community Emergency <br />Response Teams (CERT). <br /> <br />IX. TRAINING <br /> <br />This section will review the training activities of our Public Safety personnel for the <br />month. <br /> <br />On Monday August 14, the Fire division conducting training exercises on confined space <br />entry at the Public Safety Center and trained with Project Life Saver throughout New <br />Brighton. <br />
