11
operate as an Incident Management Team member. At the conclusion of their training,
their membership with the Minnesota All Hazards Incident Management Team (AHIMT)
was accepted. This training, combined with experiences they will obtain from the
AHIMT, will continue to enhance the ability of the City of New Brighton to respond to
any variety of challenges it may face.

The Police Division completed its annual training days. There are four training days
which occur throughout the year and they include the mandatory training for use of force
training and EMT/EMR training to maintain licensure. The training days are integrated
into the regularly scheduled hours to eliminate overtime costs. These training days
included training on Use of Force Updates, Taser refresher training, active shooter
training, obstetrics, strokes, communicable diseases, ambulance reviews, and IV starting.

Deputy Fire Chief, Mike Schute, attended the annual MSFCA conference in Rochester.

New Brighton hosted a 5-day Field Training Officer (FTO) certification course in the
upper level training room. In exchange for providing the classroom space and facilities,
Public Safety was able to send three of our own officers to the course. With the extensive
hiring of new police officers and internal promotions/assignments during the past two
years, our Police Division was in need of adding some FTOs to our cadre of patrol-level
trainers, so this was optimal timing to host the class.

On Wednesday, October 4th, members of the Police and Fire Divisions, along with Allina
Health and the North Suburban Haz Mat Team conducted a joint training exercise at
Fairview Clinic. The exercise was designed to practice the response to an infectious
disease outbreak.
