15
compassion will leave a void in the department. Officer Nerison has indicated he is
joining the Airport Police Department due to the department’s size which offers
additional advancement opportunities along with its homeland security mission.

Anthony Semanko has accepted the final offer from the City to become a New Brighton
Police Officer. His start date was October 16th. Anthony comes to us from the City of
Anoka where he served as a Community Service Officer and comes highly recommended
from the Anoka City Chief. He will undergo 3 days of in-house training prior to his
training on Patrol. He will then spend the next 4 months being evaluated and trained to
become a New Brighton Police Officer. His hiring will fill the position vacated by Nick
Benedict who left the agency during the Field Training Program 5 months ago. With the
resignation of Officer Nerison and the start date of Anthony, Public Safety will continue
to be short one officer.

Public Safety collected 101 pounds of unused prescription medications as New Brighton
was listed as a collection point for this Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
publicized effort. The secure drop-box in the Public Safety Center lobby had to be
emptied several times to keep pace with all of the medications disposed of during the
campaign. As a reminder, the lobby is conveniently open 24/7 for residents to drop-off
unused prescription medications on any day of the year at any time.
