In September 2011 we opened Pets Remembered Cremation Service to provide the option of private
(one-at-a-time-only) cremation, and next day return of ashes, for family pets. We serve the Minneapolis
/St. Paul area, inviting people to bring their pets directly to us. We also offer pick-up service of pets from
homes and clinics. In addition to our on-site crematory, we display and sell urns, as well as other
memorial items.
In addition to family pets, we have worked with several municipalities in the area with their police K-9s
(active and retired), the Ely Wolf Center and their wolves, The Wild Cat Sanctuary and their small cats, as
well as service dogs for the blind, deaf, PTSD and other specialties.
The owners are Donald “Skip” Wyland, a licensed Minnesota funeral director, and Carol Noren, a retired
pastor and hospice chaplain. We employ one former veterinary tech instructor who works full time, four
mortuary science students from the University of MN who work evenings and cremate as late as
needed, and a neighbor who picks up pets and delivers ashes
Since opening, we have experienced double-digit growth each year. A typical day starts with the first
cremation at 8am and continues until all of the cremations are complete, finishing any time between
7pm to after midnight many nights. Our one crematory is running at near capacity. A second machine
would relieve some of the late night hours for all those employed.
The second machine we would like to add is the same machine we are currently using, a B & L 200. We
have serviced it regularly and it has performed without issue. It is UL listed and meets all MPCA
requirements. It is used in all 50 states and several foreign countries and meets all specific state
requirements.
The building addition would include:
• non-combustible cinder block walls matching the current building
• matching roof fascia and matching 75 year shingles
• matching beige yellow siding currently being used on apex
• matching steel exit door
• a concrete slab floor
• electricity and gas supply, with no room heat or water
Additional considerations:
 When we opened in 2011 there were 55 crematory sites in Minnesota. Currently there are over
70, half of which are in residential areas and many locations have multiple machines.
 We have never had a smoke or smell complaint.
 Our crematory is exempt from requiring an MPCA permit.
 Since opening we have taken up residence 1.2 miles from the business. The business neighbors
are also our residence neighbors.
