April 15, 2007 A public hearing was held by the Planning <br />Commission whereby members of the public were <br />given the opportunity to comment. <br /> <br />April 26, 2008 A draft plan was made available at the Town Hall <br />Meeting. <br /> <br />May 13, 2008 The City Council considered a draft of the 2030 <br />Comprehensive Plan update and recommended various <br />revisions. <br /> <br />May 27, 2008 The City Council authorized a draft of the 2008 <br />Update to the Comprehensive Plan to be distributed to <br />adjacent communities, affected school districts, the <br />Rice Creek Watershed District, and Ramsey County. <br /> <br />May – Nov.2008 Mandatory 6-month review period. <br /> <br />Nov. – Dec. 2008 Revisions were made based upon the comments <br />received during the mandatory review period. <br /> <br />Dec. – 2008 The Planning Commission and City Council reviewed <br />the draft 2030 Comprehensive Plan Update and <br />authorized its submission to the Metropolitan Council. <br /> <br />May – 2009 The Metropolitan Council approved the 2030 New <br />Brighton Comprehensive Plan Update subject to <br />advisory comments. <br /> <br />Nov. 17, 2009 The Planning Commission recommended the City <br />Council adopt the 2030 New Brighton Comprehensive <br />Plan Update. <br /> <br />Nov. 24, 2009 The City Council adopted Resolution 09-079 <br />authorizing the 2030 New Brighton Comprehensive <br />Plan Update to be put into effect. <br /> <br />Neighborhood Planning Boundaries <br /> <br />The 1988 comprehensive plan focused on neighborhood level planning, identifying 10 different <br />“planning neighborhoods” according to physical and geological separations such as Interstates 694 and <br />35W, Rice Creek and Long Lake Regional Park to name a few. Existing land use patterns and future <br />land use plans were developed for each individual neighborhood under the 1988 comprehensive plan. <br />These neighborhoods were then further broken down under the neighborhood crime watch program and <br />are currently identified as “Grids.” Many of these neighborhoods frequently have what are referred to as <br />neighborhood grid meetings. These grid meetings provide opportunity for the neighborhood to discuss <br />neighborhood and community issues and problems. <br /> <br />Both the 1998 and 2008 comprehensive plans do not go into the neighborhood level of detail that the <br />1988 comprehensive plan did.
