Parks & Recreation Updates will be emailed around the 10th of each month. <br />o The Brightwood Hills PGA Junior League Team finished the regular season with a record <br />of 4-1. Post season play for a least two members of the team follow in August/September. <br />This was our first venture into this program and the parents and kids can’t wait until next <br />season. <br />o Brightwood Hills will complete the seven week Junior Program on time and by the end of <br />July. Over 140 juniors participated this summer, just about on par with last year. <br />o July 17-July 21 was Sports and Games Galore week at the Playground Program. <br />Participants made mini foam fingers, relay batons, paper balls, and invented their own <br />games using Ping-Pong balls, egg cartons and other household items. <br /> SUSTAINING FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY <br />o Staff used MaxGalaxy league software to compile and display softball standings online. <br />o Staff has been streamlining daycare payments in MaxGalaxy software. <br /> SUPPORTING COMMUNITY REINVESTMENT <br />o Canoe and kayak classes were held at Long Lake with 26 youth ages 10-15 <br />attending. Classes were held in partnership with the Rice Creek Boat Club. <br />o To prolong the life of NBCC, water intrusion tests were performed to help determine the <br />location of water entering the building. Repairs will be made to the areas water enters the <br />building once they have been identified. <br />o The New Brighton Parks & Recreation Department celebrated National Park & <br />Recreation Month by hosting a community event at the New Brighton Community <br />Center. An estimated 200 people attended and enjoyed food from Dairy Queen, partook <br />in games and activities hosted by the Summer Playground staff, a live DJ and interactive <br />dancers from KidsDance, and explored a fire truck.
