2 <br /> <br /> City of New Brighton will be receiving an award for the City’s new <br />website. MN Association of Governmental Communities is the one <br />giving the awards. <br /> New Brighton plans to expand license bureau opportunities including <br />driver’s license renewals. This will bring in additional revenue. <br /> Some options at for the Lions Park playground have gone over budget. <br />There is fundraising currently taking place. <br /> Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission will be receiving <br />training on Commission rules and expectations at the June meeting. <br />B. Chair Updates – Commissioner Fields <br />None <br />C. Lions Park Focus Group Update – Commissioner Stenglein <br />Commissioner Stenglein stated the Task Force met last week. Gravity rail is <br />the first in the State. There are motivated individuals on the Task Force. <br />Fundraising began. Playground has a 12 foot slide. It will be a destination <br />park for sure. The park will be a very positive addition to the City. <br />D. Commission Reports on Parks <br />Driftwood: Johnson. Had been graffiti in various areas in the park. Some dirt <br />areas related to the construction, otherwise the park looks good. <br />Freedom: Brunell. Looks good. Branches are gone. Piles of sand there. <br />Parks Superintendent Chris Wolla stated that sand will go on the hockey <br />rinks. <br />Hansen: Fields. Looks good. Not sure all Portable toilets are there. Chris <br />Wolla stated he will check that out. <br />Hidden Oaks: Quade. Was at the park over the weekend it looks good. <br />Would like the Hidden Oaks Court discussion put on next month’s agenda. <br />Innsbruck: Axberg. Agreed to walk the park and report on it next month. <br />Meadow Wood: Eischen. Park looks great, soccer field looks good. Light out <br />on south side of the park. <br />Silver Oaks/Totem Pole: Justin. The items to be picked up are still there. <br />Fencing at ballfield needs repair. Basketball court and ballfields being used. <br />Silver Oaks is getting more use. <br />Sunny Square/Vermont: McEathron. Sunny Sq. looks good; nothing new. No <br />report on Vermont. <br />Veterans: Stenglein. Looks good, saw a number of teams practicing on the <br />field. There appears to be more playground use on weekends than weekdays. <br />E. Department Happenings / upcoming events <br /> City received the 35th Tree City USA designation. Held an Arbor Day <br />celebration on April 28th with Bel Air 4th graders at Hansen Park <br />planting trees. <br /> Golf course open; the after school golf league is in progress. <br />VIII.
