<br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting – October 4, 2017 <br />7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Chair Paul Zisla, Commissioners Bob Benke, Emily Dunsworth, Monica <br />Garcia-Perez (arrived at 7:38 p.m.), Rachel Nelson, Mike Murlowski, Harry Carter and Graeme Allen <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Commissioners Kevin Peck <br /> <br />Staff Present: Janice Gundlach-Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning <br />Director, Craig Schlichting-Community Assets & Development Director, and Councilmember Gina <br />Bauman <br />Also Present: <br />Call to Order <br />Chairperson Zisla called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Agenda <br />Motion by Commissioner Murlowski, seconded by Commissioner Benke to approve the agenda as <br />presented. <br /> <br />Approved 7-0 <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Allen, seconded by Commissioner Benke to approve the minutes from the <br />September 6, 2017 meeting. <br /> <br />Approved 7-0 <br /> <br />Report from Council Liaison <br /> <br />Councilmember Bauman reported the Council approved a Cable Franchise with Comcast. She noted the <br />Council held a worksession meeting and discussed the State of the City while reviewing its strategic <br />priorities. She noted the Council was discussing a potential diversity task force. <br /> <br />Housing Programs Wrap Up Discussion <br /> <br />Gundlach reported at meetings held on April 5, 2017 and August 2, 2017, the Commission discussed a <br />variety of topics surrounding “housing programs”. Discussion included: <br /> <br />• Review of 2010-2011 Council work session materials regarding Council’s past interest in this <br />topic, <br />• Review and update of a spreadsheet regarding various housing program offerings currently <br />available metro-wide, <br />• Affordable housing and/or inclusionary housing ordinances that relate to housing affordability <br />based on what households can pay for rent/mortgage based on a percentage of the area median <br />income, and <br />• Existing New Brighton initiatives that contribute to the health and safety of housing locally. <br />
