February 13, 2( <br />disrespecting the electorate. She stated she was insulted by his accusations and believed he was calling <br />her a liar. She reported her motivation to move to even numbered year elections was strictly to increase <br />voter turnout and not to extend her term as Mayor. She feared that because of the insults that were <br />made against her she would not be able to trust Mr. Jones to serve as a Planning Commissioner. She <br />supported Mr. Jones having a different point of view from the City Council but did not recommend he <br />remain on the Planning Commission. <br />Councilmember Burg explained the Council had previously tried to change election years from odd to <br />even and recommended terms be shortened by one year. She indicated the City was then sued by a <br />previous Councilmember and commission member. She reported the Council was now acting within <br />their right to change from odd numbered to even numbered years based on State legislation. <br />Councilmember Allen stated Councilmember Dunsworth was a fine attorney and she highlighted the <br />commission expectations well. <br />Councilmember Dunsworth noted that Mr. Jones was also an attorney and he also should have read the <br />commission expectations. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen proposed an amendment to the motion requesting a written reprimand be sent <br />to Ben Jones asking that he cease or stop his actions. <br />Motion amendment by Councilmember Jacobsen, seconded by Councilmember Allen to recommend <br />a written reprimand be sent to Ben Jones aslang that he case or stop his actions. <br />2 Ayes, 3 Nays (Burg, Dunsworth and Mayor Johnson) -Motion Amendment Failed <br />3 Ayes, 2 Nays (Allen and Jacobsen) -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported he would be meeting with local legislators regarding the railroad <br />bridge. He noted staff was working on potential grant opportunities for trails within the <br />railway corridor. He explained he received a letter from the Commander of the Minneapolis <br />Police Department regarding the Public Safety Departments participation in the Super Bowl. <br />He read this letter in full for the record and commended the New Brighton Police Officers that <br />served at this event. He provided the Council with an update on the MNLARS State licensing <br />system and noted a fee schedule update was being proposed by legislators. <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen reported the I35W Coalition meeting that was scheduled for this week <br />was canceled and would be rescheduled. He stated the EDC met on Wednesday, February 7th <br />and the group received a presentation from Open to Business and discussed the Korean <br />Church. He encouraged members of the public to contact City Hall or visit the City's website if <br />interested in serving on a City Commission. He thanked Dairy Queen and Kitchen Kut Ups for <br />their donations to the Park and Recreation Department. <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth reported she would be attending the Planning Commission <br />meeting next on Tuesday, February 20th. She noted the farmer's market was seeking <br />volunteers at this time and those interested were encouraged to contact her for further <br />information. She thanked the girl scouts and boy scouts for putting on the community bonfire <br />in January. <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported 250 people attended the community bonfire.
