Councilmember Allen asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend. <br />Mr. Palmeri stated he would not coerce himself or be coerced by an external organization or friend. He stated <br />his focus would be on the betterment of New Brighton. He hoped that if a situation like this were to arise he <br />would have colleagues to address the issue with. <br />Councilmember Burg asked what the City's biggest challenges were. <br />Mr. Palmeri stated he thought the City's biggest challenge at this time was the redevelopment of the Korean <br />Church. He indicated maintaining relationships with small businesses in the community was also a challenge. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if he was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility; <br />economic programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of <br />public safety. <br />Mr. Palmeri stated he was most interested in the impacts of public safety. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked if he was available in the evening hours for meetings. <br />Mr. Palmeri commented he could attend evening meetings. <br />Mayor Johnson reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City Council. She <br />asked how Mr. Palmeri would respond if he disagreed with a City policy or Ordinance. <br />Mr. Palmeri believed it was super important to not undermine the organization. He stated dissention should be <br />discussed internally and would not be appropriate to discuss in the community. <br />Mayor Johnson discussed the process the Council would be following for the committee member <br />appointments. She asked if Mr. Palmeri had any questions for the Council. <br />Mr. Palmeri questioned what the role and responsibilities were for a commissioner outside of the monthly <br />meetings. <br />Mayor Johnson explained she would like commissioners to represent the City well, be out in the community <br />And up to speed on community issues.
