<br /> <br />Community Center includes the newly rebuilt Eagles Nest indoor playground, senior <br />programming, a full size gym, indoor track and fitness center, meeting rooms and banquet <br />facilities and is home to the City’s Parks and Recreation Department offices. New Brighton <br />is also home to Brightwood Hills Golf Course, a 31-acre nine-hole executive course known <br />for its youth programming and league nights. <br /> <br />Discussion included: <br /> The Commission requested park tours be conducted this summer. <br /> <br />VI. Announcements <br /> <br />A. Council Report – Council Member Paul Jacobsen <br /> <br />Council Member Jacobsen commented it was good to be back serving as the liaison to PREC. <br />He welcomed the new Commissioners to PREC and thanked all of the Commission members <br />for their service to the community. <br /> <br />B. PREC Chair Updates – Kevin Fields <br /> <br />Chair Fields welcomed the new Commissioners to PREC and for their willingness to serve <br />the City. He requested the new members introduce themselves to the Commission. <br /> <br />Commissioner O’Rourke introduced herself to the Commission noting she recently finished <br />her PhD in Mechanical Engineering. She explained she was interested in environmental <br />issues and engaging the public. <br /> <br />Commissioner Matt Johnson introduced himself to the Commission and noted he was a nine <br />year resident of New Brighton. He stated he has two daughters that were avid users of the <br />City’s parks. He reported he manages the Roseville Ice Center and was a certified Park and <br />Recreation professional. <br /> <br />Commissioner Santi introduced himself to the Commission and noted he has lived in New <br />Brighton since July of 2017. He explained he frequented the City’s parks and participated in <br />the recreation leagues. <br /> <br />C. Department Happenings and Upcoming Events – City Staff <br /> <br />Director Fink stated the City Forester has located 60+ trees in the City on private property <br />that have EAB. She indicated staff would be working with the property owners to have these <br />trees removed to reduce the spread of EAB. She reviewed the number of visits to the Eagle’s <br />Nest in the previous month, along with the number of birthday parties. She discussed the <br />Community Center staffing numbers for the Community Center for Saturdays and Sundays. <br />She reported staff would be hearing from a special guest speaker on autism and inclusivity in <br />order to learn about how to handle guests with special needs. She explained the gravity rail <br />at Lion’s Park would be installed this spring.
