January 9, 2018 Page 4 of 5 <br />meeting. <br />Mayor Johnson clarified that the Resolution before the Council was to appoint delegates to public agencies <br />and not commissions. <br /> <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried. <br /> <br />Public Hearing <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />Council Business <br /> <br />None. <br /> <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br /> <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported Director Schlichting had the lead on the Hanson Park project and <br />had drafted a fact sheet for the City’s website. He noted Director Schlichting has held <br />numerous meetings with this neighborhood in order to reach a compromise and has been <br />making himself very available to these residents. He described the recent rain events that <br />brought about the need to improve Hanson Park. He explained how the project at Hanson Park <br />would lessen the impact of stormwater and flooding on the neighbors. He indicated this <br />project was a joint effort between the City and the Rice Creek Watershed District. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson agreed the City has made a valiant effort to resolve the issues at Hanson Park. <br />She understood there was concern with the pile of material within the park. She stated the plan <br />at this time was for the contract to be finished and for reevaluation to be considered after that <br />time. <br /> <br />City Manager Lotter reported Parks and Recreation Director Fink received the Dorthea Nelson <br />Award for her efforts in Anoka County. He discussed the new format being used for the New <br />Brighton Newsletter and noted an article regarding the change to even year elections would be <br />included in this document. He stated an FAQ would also be placed on the City’s website. He <br />explained work continues on the water treatment plant and he was proud to report the project <br />remained on schedule. He noted the plant should be open for use in the fall of 2018. <br /> <br />Graeme Allen <br />Councilmember Allen thanked the voters for their support and staff for their great welcome. <br />He believed the City had a great team in place and he looked forward to serving the community <br />in 2018. <br /> <br />Emily Dunsworth <br />Councilmember Dunsworth thanked staff and the leadership team for welcoming her to the <br />City Council. She stated she was looking forward to serving the City as a Councilmember. <br /> <br />Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg welcomed Councilmember Allen and Councilmember Dunsworth to the <br />City Council and congratulated the Mayor on her reelection. She stated the City had some <br />exciting projects they would be addressing in 2018. She thanked Councilmember Strub for <br />always being prepared for each and every meeting, and for being a valuable resource.
