Mayor Johnson asked if these actions would change if it was a lifelong friend.

Ms. O’Rourke stated she would act in the same way, regardless of who came to her with the concern. She
would have empathy and listen to their concern.

Councilmember Dunsworth reported each commission is tasked with making recommendations to the City
Council. She asked how Ms. O’Rourke would respond if she disagreed with a policy or Ordinance already in
place.

Ms. O’Rourke stated this would depend on if there was a valid reason and if a change was needed. She
commented trust was in place for a reason. She indicated she would talk to the City Council on this issue and
otherwise would work within the existing policy framework.

Councilmember Jacobsen asked what the City’s biggest challenges were.

Ms. O’Rourke understood the City was working to create inclusiveness and participating in the community.
She stated this could probably be enhanced along with economic development.

Councilmember Allen asked if she was interested in land uses and variances; diversity and accessibility;
economic programs, retention and development; the impact of recreation on the community; or the impacts of
public safety.

Ms. O’Rourke stated she was most interested in Parks and Recreation and the environment. She indicated the City had a new Parks
and Recreation Director that was quite dynamic and open to change within the system. She commented the
Council may seek recommendations from PREC on recycling food waste, a splash pad or a potential pickle
ball court. She stated that recommendations can also come straight from Commissioners to the City Council as
well.

Councilmember Jacobsen anticipated PREC would also be reviewing each of the City’s parks in order to
ensure they are properly being programmed for the community.

Mayor Johnson thanked Ms. O’Rourke for her time and commented on the process the C ouncil would be
following for the Commission appointments.

Mayor Johnson welcomed Tim McQuillan.

Councilmember Dunsworth asked Tim to tell the Council a little bit about himself and his experiences in the
community.

Tim McQuillan stated he moved to New Brighton in July of 1987. He commented he has served as an election
judge at St. John’s. He indicated he was not that involved in the community while he was working because he
