REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL CONSIDERATION

ITEM DESCRIPTION: Consideration of a Resolution approving a Special Use Permit for
565 1st Street SW.
DEPARTMENT HEAD’S APPROVAL: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets
& Development

CITY MANAGER APPROVAL:

No comments to supplement this report _______ Comments attached ______

15.99 Deadline: June 17, 2018

Recommendation: Adopt the Resolution provided, approving the request as submitted and
subject to three conditions.

Legislative History: May 15, 2018: The Planning Commission considered the request and held
a public hearing. The public provided no testimony. The applicant answered questions from the
Commission. The Commission voted unanimously to recommend approval of the request
consistent with the staff recommended four conditions. After the Commission meeting, but prior
to Council consideration, the applicant submitted an updated Site Plan (attached), which depicts
the trailer storage location and eliminates one of the conditions of approval.

Financial Impact: None

Explanation: The applicant is requesting a Special Use Permit to permit trailer sales 565 1st
Street SW. The extent of the applicant’s business is rental and storage of intermodal storage
containers/trailers. However, per the applicant’s narrative, they do keep one to five trailers on-site
that are for sale. The sales component requires the Special Use Permit.

The applicant recently moved his existing operation to 565 1st Street SW from the neighboring
property at 587 1st Street SW, where he was conducting sales. The Planning Report outlines a
special use permit analysis and concludes all special use standards are met. The Resolution
attached outlines the findings for approval.

Costs and Funding: Not applicable

AGENDA SECTION: Consent
REPORT DATE: 5/16/2018
MEETING DATE: 5/22/2018
