Community Assets &
Development Department

MEMORANDUM

DATE: June 26, 2018

TO: City Manager Lotter
Mayor
Members of the Council

FROM: Craig Schlichting, Director of Community Assets & Development
Jennifer Fink, Director of Parks and Recreation
Sandra Daniloff, Deputy City Clerk

SUBJECT: City Logo and Branding

At the request of City Council at the May 22 Work Session, staff engaged the services provided by the
website 99designs.com to host a city logo design contest. It is the hope that the outcome of this contest
leads to a new rebranded logo for utilization in various upcoming time sensitive projects such as the new
billboard at the Community Center and the sound walls on 35W that will be under construction in 2019.

As a part of this process, staff engaged designers to propose logos and taglines for the City of New
Brighton. Directors Schlichting and Fink, and Deputy Clerk Daniloff along with the CAT team combed
through over 300 logo submissions to narrow the field to six designers. Those designers refined their
designs, and the final few are presented here for your review.

Staff recommends that the Council pick their favorite three designs, and then use the community
engagement software that the City is procuring to gain feedback from the residents on things that they
like or dislike about each of them. Designs can have a final refinement, and then be presented to council
for a final vote at a future Council meeting.
