<br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Council Worksession <br />June 26, 2018 <br />5:00 pm <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Valerie Johnson (arrived at 5:23 p.m.) <br /> Councilmember Graeme Allen <br /> Councilmember Mary Burg <br /> Councilmember Emily Dunsworth <br /> Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Jennifer Fink, Craig Schlichting, Sandra Daniloff <br /> <br />Guests in Attendance: <br /> <br />Logo and Branding <br />Lotter stated at the request of City Council at the May 22 Work Session, staff engaged the services provided by <br />the website 99designs.com to host a city logo design contest. It is the hope that the outcome of this contest <br />leads to a new rebranded logo for utilization in various upcoming time sensitive projects such as the new <br />billboard at the Community Center and the sound walls on 35W that will be under construction in 2019. <br /> <br />Fink provided the Council with a PowerPoint presentation on the proposed new logos and branding <br />information. She commented on the process staff followed for the logo design contest noting staff engaged <br />designers to propose logos and taglines for the City of New Brighton. She reported Director Schlichting and <br />herself, and Deputy Clerk Daniloff along with the CAT team combed through over 300 logo submissions to <br />narrow the field to six designers. Those designers refined their designs, and the final six were presented to the <br />Council for review. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth asked why staff had selected the final six and questioned what stood out in these <br />logos. Daniloff explained the six logos had a pleasing design, were not too detailed and could be used in a <br />number of ways throughout the City. Schlichting commented green and blue were the favored colors because <br />of their correlation with nature and water. In addition, he explained the fonts that were used on the final six <br />logos were unique. Fink reported the proposed logos could also be easily updated. <br /> <br />Councilmember Allen stated he liked the logo that was the shape of the City along with the updated NB. <br /> <br />Councilmember Burg explained she liked the look of the final six designs stating they were very clean. She <br />noted she appreciated the color schemes but understood the colors could be changed. <br /> <br />Councilmember Jacobsen stated he really liked the logo on the lower right. He liked the NB and suggested <br />staff see if the map of the City could be merged in with this logo. <br /> <br />Mayor Johnson arrived at the meeting at 5:23 p.m. <br /> <br />Councilmember Dunsworth commented she agreed with Councilmember Jacobsen and Councilmember Allen. <br />She noted she was not a fan of the fonts but understood these could be changed.
